Projects to Ensure Energy Efficiency in Your Home

Maintaining comfort in a home is something that we all strive to do, and while it is incredibly easy to simply turn up the air or heat of our thermostat, it isn’t necessarily the best way to get the job done. Updating Insulation

The entire purpose of insulation is to provide a barrier between the uncontrollable temperatures outside of your house, and the manageable ones inside. As houses get older, so does the insulation. When your home has older insulation, it has a difficult time maintaining the heat that you are setting inside. That means that the cool or warm air coming from your HVAC unit is escaping through cracks in your siding, roof, or walls. This is a project that doesn’t need to be done on a regular basis but is something that you should look into if you’re unsure how long it’s been since the insulation was replaced. Caulking Window Frames

The same as with insulation, the frames of windows in old homes can become easy escapes for the air inside your home. Not all windows require this type of care, there are plenty of windows that have been replaced and designed to be more efficient. Double paned windows and any windows with specific materials creating the frame will usually be efficient enough to maintain energy, and won’t be benefited by any extra caulking. If you aren’t noticing any steam or dew build up in the cold of mornings during the winter, then your windows are going to be of a good enough quality that you won’t have to worry about replacing them.
